Surgical Instruments to Ukraine

Australian plastic surgeon Rowan Story, who has led a volunteer medical team for over 25 years to the Barsky hospital Tom Miller helped establish in Vietnam, has formed a direct working link with surgeons in Ukraine where he has also volunteered as a surgeon treating many war injuries. Contributions to bring medical instruments to Ukraine can be made to Greencitiesfund.org. 100% of your contribution will be used to buy much needed instruments which will be delivered directly to Ukrainian surgeons.

Please help if you can.

With your kind donation I was able to purchase a very useful collection of internal fixation plates and screws. These were requested by Dr Ivanov in Lviv.

They are used for reconstruction after cranial and maxillofacial trauma.

I did my pitch to a company here in Melbourne, and they gave me a 20% discount ! Advocacy helps – as you know better than me.

I delivered the items yesterday to a Ukrainian/Australian friend on our committee. He is a Radiologist and is travelling to Lviv tomorrow (22 September) for a week to teach at the hospital. He is also taking needed radiology equipment. He will deliver the items personally to Dr Ivanov.

It is about a 30 hour journey from Melbourne to Lviv.Tom you have done enough (in many, many ways in your life) but if you know anybody who might trust me, this little link from Australia to Ukraine does work. It is remarkable how even small contributions help the Ukrainians to not feel completely alone. I haven’t, and will never, forget Vietnam. The NHOS is having another special celebration next May of the 45th anniversary of the hospital as a Vietnamese endeavour. They have asked me to come back for that.
