Cojimar is a fishing village in Cuba linked to Hemingway’s “Old Man and the Sea”. Although it has a rich cultural tradition it faces great environmental challenges related to the conservation of its natural environment. Green Cities Fund is supporting Spain’s Escuela Economia Social in establishing a pilot study center in Cojimar to work with its children to engage in a social transformation involving active participation of the community to build a more sustainable future. The project is an independent non-profit non-governmental project of the Cuban Network of Social Solidarity Economy and Business Social Responsibility (ESCORSE). The goal is to establish similar projects throughout Cuba and Latin America. Contributions are tax deductible.
The project has been determined by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to be permissible under the General License provision of regulations allowing humanitarian assistance to Cuba.
