The top of Panoramic Hill in Berkeley looks out on the Bay and the sea beyond, a view seen by the Ohlone People for thousands of years before they were hunted down and their land was taken from them. Such a view inspired the Ohlone Song now embedded in Berkeley’s Poetry Walk:
The person who has done the most to bring back to us the lives of the original peoples of California is writer, naturalist and founder of Heyday Books, Malcolm Margolin. Green Cities Fund is working with Malcolm and his Ohlone friends to develop an appropriate memorial and recognition of Malcolm’s contribution to be initiated by a renaming ceremony at the top of Panoramic Hill.
